The 08 is referencing the parent case, the .308, necked down to accept at .284 diameter bullet versus the .308 caliber.
Other variations of the .308 case: .243 Win, .260 win
Savage made the 99C in 7mm08. They were made from 1981 to 1984. Not before or after that period of time. I have one and it is magnificent!! NOT in 1965. Savage made their first 99C in 1965 but NOT the 7mm08 until 1981.

No, you cannot, and attempting to do such would be extremely dangerous.
The left side. It is a standard (non magnum) cartridge.
Yes, I dont have a picture but yes they do. I myself am looking for a 7mm08 in browning but, Browning is not going to be making a blued/wood finish in an A bolt Hunter. In 2008 Browning will be coming out with the X-Bolt so you may have to wait until the 1st part of next year to get one, but you could get lucky and find one here and there. If you go to Browning.com you can see the pictures of 7mm08 in the X-Bolt. I will be getting one when it comes out. You may want to read up on the X-bolt sounds like it may be worth the wait. Hope this helped
Inside the trigger guard, just in front of the trigger, is a small "button". Depress it, and the bolt can be slid out.
"FY 08" in this case means "fiscal year 2008." It could in other contexts mean "for your."
2008 and after
Contact Savage Customer Service through their website, and request an owner's manual. It should include a parts list/ diagram.
