Sexual arousal in men varies from person to person, and is generally unrelated to sexual orientation. Therefore, gay man typically experiences arousal the same way a straight man does.

There is a hypothesis that gay men and other men differ in what scents and pheromones arouse them. There are two types of scent receptors in the sinus cavities. There are the ones connected to the sensory areas of the brain, and there are the ones connected to the areas of the brain related to sexuality and "gut reactions." This works the same in all humans, just that some are wired to be aroused by a man's scent and some by a woman's scent.
