Legal drugs are medications sanctioned by the federal government and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and are able to be prescribed and bought commercially over-the-counter. For example, tylenol, robitussin, percocet,etc.) Basically, anything prescribed by a physician and not re-distributed by the patient.

Illegal drugs are drugs that have not been approved for use by the Government or FDA, are synthetically manufactured, and whose sole purpose is to cause intoxication or an altered mental state.

medicinal purposes. while this is true, and cannabis can be beneficial in rare instances,

keep in mind that is still prohibited by federal law, and although a medicinal user may have state approval, he or she can still be charged with a federal offense.
