The 14th Amendment said that everyone that is born in the U.S. is a citizen and should be treated equal to everyone else. And lastly, the 15th Amendment said that anyone could vote or hold public office. And adding to that, slaves were no longer slaves, as many years passed by many other events occurring during Reconstruction.
