Depending on the person and location of the piercing, it can take anywhere between 2 weeks to 6 months for a lip piercing to heal.
After the first 2 weeks you can change the jewelry if no infection is present. Piercers use a 14 gauge needle when piercing, so you might want to down size to a 16 gauge.
To test if your piercing is fully healed (this should only be done if there is no infection. Infections mean the wound is not healed), then try removing the jewelry for 5 minutes and put it back in. If you have no trouble putting the jewelry back in and the hole has not begun to close, then try leaving it out for 20 minutes. If the hole doesn't show signs of it closing, then gradually lengthen the time the jewelry is out.
A fully healed lip piercing will stay pierced even after leaving the jewelry out for a few days. There will always be a small bit of discharge around your piercing. Healthy discharge will be white, not yellow or pus-like.
I doubt its safe for anything to go inside a lip piercing. Unless its healed.
Get a new ring, or if it's just that rings are uncomfortable for you, get a stud.
I have a lip piercing and play trumpet... While healing, yes especially when its still swollen but after the piercing is fully healed it doesn't affect at all...its as if its not even there!
Depends which part of your lip but they usually say stud at first because of the swelling but they usually ask if you wanted a ring when healed.
yes it will after a while i had the bottom side of my lip pierced and re pierced about four times now, at first it left a dark mark were the piercing used to be but now its just a small hole...barley noticeable.
If the 12 year old has had the piercing for over a year, chances are good it's healed. If it was done by a piercing gun, then it could still be healing.
Go to see a Doctor and ask.
Yeah you do need to wait until it's healed. if you don't the bioflex can delay healing due to the materials its made of.
I'd say until your lip is fully healed, and the hole is closed. Better to be safe then sorry =)
You can get it without a captive bead, but it is not recomended. The captive bead protects your piercing unti it is healed by preventing the seam of the ring from possibly scarring. It can be worn inside the lip out of sight and changed out once the peircing is healed.
For your upper lip, Left is a monroe piercing. The bottom lip could just be a lip piercing, or labret piercing.
14g is normal for a male lip piercing, 16g is normal for a female lip piercing.
