A: It simply depends on what you mean by "kid". If you're talking about folks younger than 13, I think Secondlife had a kids virtual world that you could play. You get to play with pets called Meeroos, and there is such a thing there as a virtual petting zoo. They might have changed the rules for that though, I don't know. Club Penguin and Webkinz are also good ones for people under the age of 13.
If you're 13 or older, you can play Secondlife, IMVU, Smeet, or just Sims 3.
