Surgical Steel is fine for surgery. It contains Nickel. Many people are allergic to nickel. Still, for as short a period of time as it will be used, it should not cause any problems. People are not allergic to Titanium. It is safer to leave in your body.

Grade 23 Titanium is the best surgical grade out there, then there are the steel grades. 316LVM or British Composition D surgical stainless steel is the next best material. Then you have Bio-plastic or PTFE as options instead of steel or titanium.

Personally I think lip piercings and eye brow piercings are gross. I want nose piercing, cartilage (which is the upper part of your ear) and double pircing on my ear lobe. I think they look the best. Tongue piercings are also ok but I would never get one. Also naval (belly button) piercings look nice I think, especially if you u were bikinis or half shirts and are skinny.

The only scarring leftover now after 6 months can be felt if you pinch the skin where the holes are.

It takes 3 - 6 months for a naval piercing to heal, so save yourself the pain and leave the ring alone. --Just to add more to the previous answer, if your current bar is too long once the swelling goes down, you can go to your piercer for them to put in a shorter bar. Even if it hasn't been 3-6 months. Just don't change it yourself till its completely healed
