Not really. The .38 usually refers to a rimmed revolver cartridge, such as .38 S&W, or .38 Special. The.380 is an automatic pistol cartridge, and much shorter.

What is difference between 380 caliber and 38 caliber?

One would think that .380 ACP and .38 Special would be the same size--namely 38-hundredths of an inch. But there can be some flexibility in stated caliber and actual caliber. Long story short, .380 ACP is the same diameter as a 9mm, roughly .355 caliber. .38 Special is basically .357 caliber.

Can a 380 caliber handgun and a 38 caliber handgun be the same or have same ammo type?

No, i asume you dont have see .380 pistol and a revolver 38 spl, the .380 and 38 spl ammo share de same diameter boot no the longer, the 38 is for a 38 special revolver tipe and the .380 is for an automatic pistol tipe some people call 9mm short.

Are 380 caliber and 38 caliber the same?

You'd think they would be--right? Depending on the tolerances of a particular weapon, you might be able to use SIMILAR projectiles. A .380 caliber is actually has a .355 caliber projectile--so does a 9mm. The typical .38, as in 38 Special is .357 caliber. So, when all is said and done, .355 caliber is smaller than .357 caliber. No, they are not the same, but close.

A 380 is what caliber?

Well, it's a .38 caliber, but the actual measurement is .355 of an inch.

What does .38 caliber mean?

Caliber is the diameter of the bore of a firearm. It's expressed in hundredths or thousandths of an inch, as in .45 caliber or .380 caliber. Curiously, the actual diameter of a .38 caliber slug is 0.357 inch.

Can you shoot .38 caliber ammo in a 380 caliber handgun?

No. Ammo designated as .38 or .38 special is different than ammo designated as .380. .380 is designed for semi-auto handguns and .38 ammo is for revolvers.More to the point, the .38 Special has a longer case, and a larger diameter projectile. The .38 special bullet measures .357" diameter, the .380 measures .355" diameter. The .38 special is a 'rimmed' cartridge, and the .380 is 'rimless'. Luckily, .38 Special ammo will not fit in a .380 magazine, otherwise the results could be disastrous, possibly turning your .380 handgun into a hand grenade.

What has the most stopping power a 38 caliber or a 380 caliber hand gun?

Depends- WHICH 38 caliber- and which cartridge. The .38 S&W is a relatively weak cartridge, but the .38 Special has been loaded to much higher energies. SOME .38 specials have more stopping power than SOME .380s. and vice versa. The .38 Super Auto has MUCH more power than the .380.

Is A 38 The Same As A 380?

No. 38 = .357 projectiles; 380 = .355 projectiles from a shorter case

Can you shoot 38 JHP in a 380 caliber gun?

NEVER FIRE AMMUNITION IN A WEAPON IT IS NOT CHAMBERED FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, No, NO

What is the caliber of the 9mm?

About .36 caliber. The 9mm family of calibers normally uses a bullet that is .356 diameter. This is the same as the .380 and nearly the same as the .38 Special, whose "nominal" calibers are quite different from their actual bullet diameter when measured.

What is the exact type of ammo for a particular firearm?

Question is too broad to answer. In general, use ammunition that is the same as the caliber or gauge marked on the firearm. If it is marked .38 Special, use only .38 Special- NOT .38 S&W, NOT .380. NOT .38 Super.

What is bigger 38 special or 380 acp?

Oddly enough, both are about .35 Caliber, which is why one can fire a .38 Special round out of a .357 Magnum.the .38 Special has an actual diameter of .357 and the .380 has a diameter of .355. So the .38 special is larger and they are typically heavier than the .380 (110gr vs 90gr).
