The name with "Tool Co" at the end was only used from 1887 - 1916.
The Lefever Arms double barrel shotgun you described, patented in 1887 with the serial number 35xxx, is a notable piece of firearms history. Its intricate engravings, featuring a duck and a loon, suggest it was crafted with care and artistry, making it a desirable collectible for enthusiasts. The good condition of the shotgun enhances its value, as well-preserved firearms from this era are increasingly sought after by collectors. If you're considering selling or appraising it, consulting with a specialist in antique firearms would provide a more accurate valuation.
Hopkins and Allen made double barrel shotguns from 1902-1909,they made single shots from 1887 to the early 1900,s.they also made the 38xl and 44xl drop block shotguns from 1890,s thru 1914.
Winchester made a Model 1887 lever-action shotgun from 1887 - 1899. Norinco currently makes a reproduction of the Model 1887.
I'm assuming you have a Marlin model 1889, not 1887, as they never made a model 1887. The 1889 does have a patent date of 1887 on the barrel, so this is a common mistake. Any Marlin marked ".32W" on the barrel will normally be chambered for the .32-20 Win. cartridge.

Yes, the model 1887 was a lever action shotgun for 12 and 10 gauge. They made some takedown models also. A quick search on www.gunbroker.com should give several variations and pictures. There is a new Chinese import copy of the 1887 with 20" barrel in 12 ga. They seem to be a very strong gun and fairly well made.
