There are 3700kJ per 100g of PURE fat/oil. Human body fat is between 60% and 80% fat content, (they tested fat from fresh corpses) the rest is water and proteins.

In the non metric system human fat (obese person) is 3200 kCal per pound, and in a slim person 2400 kCal per pound.

The often quoted value of 3500Cal per pound is based on pure lard (ie rendered down fat being 100% pure fat.) The word Calorie is usually used to signify the scientific kilocalorie. One real calorie is 4.2kJ. Calorie is the energy needed to heat 1g of water by 1c.
