Well, sort of. Watching TV is a very passive occupation(you don't move around a lot), and if you don't move you don't burn many calories. And if you only burn a few calories it gets easier and easier to eat more calories than you loose over a day. And if you're eating more calories than you burn the excess calories will stay with you as weight gain.
I read in this health book , i think it was the healthy food guide that you burn slightly more calories sleeping than just sitting and watching. It has something to do with your body repairing cells and other stuff it has to work slightly harder than when you're just sitting.

If the video game is DDR, or any Wii game that makes you move a lot (like Wii Sports) then yes. As for other games, they may burn slightly more calories because you're moving your hands, but probably not enough to make a difference in your health.
during the EATing part, you burn the same as if u were just sitting around. however, the actual digestion process burns a few. it's disappointing, but the ENTIRE digestion of food in the human body requires very little energy in the form of calories. i guess its a good thing, but sucks if ur trying to lose some lbs and are looking for anything. little tip: one food that does actually convert into loss of calories after ingested is celery. of course, if you eat 20 stalks of celery, you're not going to lose weight. but for me, using celery and mustard as a substitute for the foods i craved has helped with the cellulite mountain.
