I have a Toshiba laptop and I don't have this problem. You have to check all your settings like virus protection settings, windows updates, etc. Windows loves to shut down and restart to install updates. This is the main reason I've seen for the computer to want to restart. You should have control over these things. Sorry, that's all I have for you.

You have to go to the start menu. there will be a icon of Shut Down. besides it, there will be a drop down box where you can select restart.

You can also hit the Alt+F4 and select restart from the drop down box from the program which appears on screen.

If your laptop hung up, you might hae to force close it by pressing the power key for about 5-10 seconds and then restart it.
