Flip the back end of the lever down and swing it around to the front. Often putting your finger nail under the back-end and lifting will help lift the level of the dimple to get it moving. This unlocks the lug on the bottom of the barrel and the front lifts up on the hinge. It is most commonly turned upside down and opened to load. Do NOT flip the barrels open or closed this is why many double derringers (model 95's) have broken hinges. From the first model made in 1865 all the way end (mono-block variation) ~1935 each model exhibits slightly larger hinges to help rectify this problem.
