Depends on the gun. If it's a rifle or shotgun, the butt of the gun should be held against your shoulder with one hand next to the trigger and the other about a foot forwards and under the barrel (there is usually a hand grip). If it's a handgun, it should be held with at least one had (two is better for accuracy) straight out at eye level with the gun vertical NOT horizontal. If two hands are used, place the other under the handle/magazine for stabilization. Remember Newton's law about equal and opposite reactions. The gun will push back when fired. Hold it firmly.
