Follow step by step, exactly!
Please note, that I use Hoppe's brand products to clean my .22 frontier scout (and mine is factory Nickel.)
Step 0) Pull hammer into Half-Cocked mode (Cylander should turn one direction,
freely. Open the loading gate. Un screw base pin catch (The only screw on the
colt frontier scout .22lr that is in front of the cylinder. Pull out the base pin, and
carefully move cylinder to the right and avoid contact between the loading
gate and ratchet (The part that turns the cylinder.)
NOTE: The cylinder will have to be turned on it's side, slightly as you pull it out.
Step 1) Attach bore brush (use silicone if you have nickel, or if you don't want to take
chances with scratching the inside of the barrel) to cleaning rod (or string) And
moisten with solvent.
NOTE: Solvents are determined by type of ammunition you are firing. IE: Lead,
copper, depleted uranium.
Step 2) Brush completely the inside of the barrel, to remove buildup and excess
discharge.
Step 3) Attach slotted end piece to cleaning rod, and place a cloth patch through the
slot. Clean inside barrel completely to remove excess solvent.
Step 4) Attach new cloth patch to slotted end, and moisten with lubricating oil.
Lubricate barrel thuroughly.
Step 5) Clean cylinder with same process as above. Also, lubricate the base pin.
Step 6) Re-assemble firearm, and wipe all exposed surfaces with a VERY light coat of
oil.
If you did it right, then you now have a cleaned and very shiny Colt Frontier Scout... So go out to the range and make her dirty again. Don't worry, she likes it! And so will you.
