They didn't have to justify slavery. In their minds it was just the way it was.

(Just for the record... yes, I believe that it was wrong)

Think of it this way... there is a country that currently practices changing the position of teeth in their children's mouths by using metal to twist and adjust them... it is common practice and it is painful at times... as horrible as this might sound..

It is called "getting braces" and many teens in the U.S. and other places have this done. It is all in a mind set of what people are accustomed to.
