Something about the water will stop/slow down the flow. If you have swimming lessons and are going to be out of the water for about ten minutes try a small thin pad otherwise just use tampons they are a lot easier and cleaner.

With a pad or tampon make sure you always change it right after your done swimming.

You CAN go in the pool when you're on your period. Your period stops in water because of the forceof the water. It suction cups blood from coming through. If you don't feel comfortable, wear a tampon. Just to be sure.

You can go into the pool on your period - but your period does NOT stop in the water, this is a myth, there is nothing about water that could stop your uterus from shedding and water pressure does not work to stop menstrual flow leaving your body. On light flow days bleeding may be diluted by the water but on heavy flow days the blood and uterine tissue will be noticed in the water or getting out.

To swim on your period you need to use one of the following options:

  • Tampons
  • Soft tampons
  • Menstrual sponges
  • Menstrual cups
  • Softcups
  • Diaphragms
