What's important is that your son learn how to have a healthy, responsible relationship, regardless of the "Plumbing." If you're not prepared to accept him as a gay person, please contact PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). They've been where you are, and they can help you through this. I also recommend a book: Loving Someone Gay by Don Clark. And I suggest you read the Discussion page for this question. I hope that's the way you want your son to feel about you.
