Well, if you're faking a pregnancy, you should still be getting your period. If you're still early in your 'pregnancy' (say 1-3 months, where the 'child' would still be about the size of a large blood clot on your period), you can 'miscarry' and feign that an overly large blood clot is the 'baby.'
