On an antique gun this is important because the parts were hand finished so replaced parts will not fit perfectly and lower the value of the gun. A model 1890 should have the serial number on the lower tang (behind the trigger guard) and if higher than 232328 it should be repeated on the receiver extention attached to the barrel. So, if you have that same number in both those places, you have matching numbers. Number 577045 was manufactured in 1917.
