I am very interested in this as I have Lyme Disease (LD) and have finally come to the conclusion that marijuana contributes to it/worsens it. LD also lowers serotonin (and important related proteins such as tryptophan) and thus it is important to get serotonin (and protein!) when you have LD.
In terms of marijuana, a recent article from Wired science (can't hyperlink for some reason, just Google marijuana and serotonin) suggests that small amounts of marijuana increase serotonin, and large amounts decrease it.
Thus, if you have serotonin deficiencies (or are depressed or are taking SSRIs) it is best to avoid marijuana, but I suppose small amounts may help. You may want to experiment, but personally I'm avoiding until I'm better. Marijuana is fun, but look inside: do you really need it??
effect of serotonin in vascular system
Serotonin has an constrictive effect on the blood vessels in the brain. It's role in the rest of the body can cause both dilation or constriction.
serotonin and dopamine
Very little is understood about the effect marijuana has on our eyes. Marijuana effects defferent people differently.
yes they deplete it.
Marijuana is a mild depressant
Marijuana in and of itself will not effect the taste buds. However, marijuana can increase your appetite, making food more appealing.
You get stoned
No.
The main neurotransmitter associated with marijuana is dopamine, which is responsible for regulating pleasure, movement, and motivation. Marijuana use can increase dopamine levels in the brain, resulting in feelings of euphoria and relaxation. Additionally, marijuana can also affect other neurotransmitters such as serotonin and GABA.
