The rifle in question is a Schmidt Rubin 6.5x55 military rifle that Sears and Roebuck had purchased after the war and bored out to 308 cal or 30.30 cal and was cut down and sporterized . The rifle sold via mail order in the late 50's early 60's for $29.99 and today in good shape is worth about $200.00 Canadian .
Built for Sears by Winchester, plain-jane version of the Winchester Model 70. Nice, solid rifle. Resale value hurt somewhat by Sears name and hardwood stock. sales@countrygunsmith.net
There have been several different Swiss Army rifles, so you will need to be more specific. One of the more popular Surplus rifles from Switzerland is the K31 rifle. Serial numbers are marked on the bolt, the magazine, and the front edge of the receiver, just ahead and to the left of the Swiss Crest stamped on top of the receiver.
