Firstly, I would personally implore you NOT to go to Claire's or any other establishment which uses piercing guns as opposed to hand piercing. It's not as though you are going to get HIV by going there, but places that use guns usually are no good.

The problem with piercing guns is that they are made out of poor grade plastic, and as a result of this, cannot be properly sterilized in a medical autoclave. The way that they do clean them is with a mid-grade germicidal solution, and this is to assume that they clean them after EVERY use or clean them properly to begin with. In addition to this, they almost never wash their hands prior to the piercing, half the time don't even wear gloves since most of the ones that I have spoken to deem them to be "unnecessary" since the procedure is "hands free". Just as significant, is that the earrings that they quite literally shove through your ears with high blunt force will have posts on them too small to accommodate for the swelling that will come along with it, they will give you a watered down astringent solution for aftercare with only minimal instructions (if any), which in most cases dries the piercing site out, and if you get a piercing on your cartilage, there is a good chance that they will "crunch" the cartilage and roll blood vessels.

Best to go to a tattoo shop that offers body piercings. Almost all piercers that I have ever known, don't charge more than $25 for practically any ear project.
