That would not be entirely unheard of, but it is rather rare. Women may apply for aid, or seek child support, so cannot be trapped into a marriage just for becoming pregnant. They may even end the pregnancy.

Typically it is the female who gets pregnant in an attempt to have the man stay with her. It may be easier for him to decide that he does have feelings for her, than it would be for him to pay her each month for 18 years while not having anything to do with her or the child.

That refers to non-married couples, of course.

In married couples, the man is more likely to try to get the woman repeatedly pregnant so she'll stay. In this scenario, he is hoping that the number of kids she has by him will make her less marketable to another man, thus restricting her choices. Then she feels trapped, because even with child support, she'll still be alone. And in this scenario, the man may not have a job, thus she may either stay and have a bit of help, or leave and have no help at all.
