It depends. Despite the fact that Santa is a folk character associated with Christmas, even countries where Christianity is not the dominant religion (Japan, for example) seem to have embraced Santa and Christmas in a secular way-- as a day for giving gifts. The same is true in China, where organized religion has not been encouraged but Christmas is celebrated by some people who use it as a good excuse for giving and receiving presents. American, Canadian, and British Chinese people tend to have picked up the holidays of the country they are living in-- although many Asians practice Buddhism or Taoism or Confucianism, the idea of "Santa" giving gifts to children has caught on in some Asian families.
Many don't, but some do. :)
