Usually when someone mentions cheetah and lion, pictures of a big yellow cat eating its prey just jump out spontaneously from our brain. Although cheetahs and lions may seem similar, but the two are more different than you might think. Yes, cheetahs and lions are similar in some ways, but evaluate the number of differences and the number of similarity areas between them; the number of the similarity areas seems to be trifling.

Lions and cheetahs do have some familiar things. They are both vulnerable animals which are threatened with wiped out; and they both are widespread in the same habitat: the African Savannah. One of the biggest mutual is that they both belong to the cat family Felidae. But those are almost the only remarkable common between lions and cheetahs. Besides, cheetahs belong to the genus Acinonyx, but lion belong to the genus Panthera. Lions, like leopards, tigers can roar. Cheetahs can't roar but can chirp, bark, purr, hiss, growl, and snarl. The cheetah has retractable claws which are used in speed.

Another big difference between lions and cheetahs is the way they live and hunt. Lions are social animals, which mean they live with each other and hunt together as a group. But only male cheetahs will join together in small group of 2 to 5, They will mark and patrol a certain territory. Female cheetahs live alone and roam the land they live in, not keeping a single territory for very long; cheetahs hunt at daytime using its tear stain to see better in heat. Lions hunt in the evening when it isn't so hot. Lions are larger, heavier stronger and bigger. If there's a chance a lion could kill a cheetah very easily. But cheetahs are much faster.
