The use of marijuana actually decreased according to many studies. Certain ideas that answer the reason why is because marijuana isn't seen as the "hardcore drug" anymore. Because it's legal it doesnt give people the "breaking the law rush" anymore.
As with all ideas remember this may not be the exact reason why, every human has his/her own reasons.
When it's made legal under federal law. There is no legal marijuana in any state or territory of the United States. Some states have decriminalized it at the state level, meaning that they've declined to prosecute.

Marijuana was made illegal in the United States with the passage of the Marihuana Tax Act in 1937, which imposed strict regulations and taxes on its cultivation and distribution. This act effectively criminalized the possession and sale of marijuana in the country.
There are some legal and some illegal for example a few months back I heard of a legal drug which was it is called recently made illegal "spice" apparently there are many different "flavors" and apparently it is the substitute for marijuana because it has the same effects I don't think marijuana is a gateway drug personally, but i believe that this spice may be a gateway drug to marijuana but that is just my opinion

Legal marijuana If anyone tells you that you can get it legally in Jamaica, do not believe them. Apparently alot of persons are misled and when they go to Jamaica they end up getting into trouble with the law. It is more common in a few areas such as the rastafarian religion and in some of the tourist areas. But it is not legal. The only places you can legally get marijuana as of September 12th, 2014 is in Colorado, Washington, and the country of Uruguay (in 2015). There are a couple more states that will have it possibly legal by 2015: Oregon, Alaska, and Washington D.C. - other than these, you can not get marijuana without a medical reason (even then, only some states/countries allow medicinal use).
