Since slaves were considered to be property, their fate was determined by the will of their owner. Sometimes a slave owner would direct that some or all of his slaves would be freed after his death, although that was not the most usual kind of will. In most cases, slaves would be inherited, like all the other property of the deceased slave owner, by the designated heir, usually the children of the slave owner.
they died
the slaves had to work and some of them died
It depends on what kind of slave. If it was a permanent slave, they would live with their masters until one of them died or was released by their master. An indentured slave lived with their master until their debt for coming to America was payed off. Most of the time this was 7 years
Many died before they could be worked to death. Some of those that survived were able to earn their freedom and start families of their own.
Until they died, were sold, or ran away.

they died
Slaves were considered property and so would become part of the decedent's estate. They passed according to the will of the owner or under the laws of intestacy to the owner's heirs at law if there was no will.

They either got well as they worked, or they died.

Many slaves were granted their freedom when their master died as a provision in his will. I believe a slave could also buy his freedom. They were usually freed when they were around 30 (manumission) Also when their master was very pleased and very kind he would set him free. eg. if you were a kind master and you were being mugged, and a slave saves you, you might free that slave. Question of my own: How would a master show that he freed his slave??
The slaves were treated poorly and were beaten to pulps. The people who traded the slaves were cruel and had no sense of affection of humanity. They call the slaves animals? If I could go back in time I'd show those people who are the REAL animals! Slaves that died on the ships were left where they were, whether they were pushed between two others slaves are laying in a bunk. They DIED of starvation and the deadly heat.
