It would depend on your symptom's and even then you cant depend on those haha, one time i was 18 days late for my cycle with sore boobs and light spotting, feeling sick to my stomach and got all negative tests. i felt silly when i started haha. You can take a test the day after you miss your period and if it is still neg wait a week and take a test again. A test is the only way of knowing for sure.
