with the wingmaster barrel you can only shoot lead, but if you change the barrel to a slugster you can shoot slugs and buckshot, they also have a barrel for steel shot to.
Yes you can, I own a Remington 870 wingmaster with a 27" smoothbore barrel and it shoots rifled 1oz slugs all day, and fairly accurately. The only thing you cannot shoot through it is sabbot slugs but the nice thing about having a gun like yours is that you can go from slugs to 00 buck shot to bird shot without changing barrels. Good luck and happy shooting
12, 16, 20, 28 gauge, or .410 bore, depending on what it is chambered for.

Yes: A Remington 870 shotgun with a modified choke will shoot any commercial shotgun slug.
Yes.
Each weapon will exhibit a preference for a certain maker/load combination. The only way to know is to shoot as many different loads as you can find.
The Express version of the 870 Remington is normally either 12 or 20 gauge. Gauge desigantion is marked on the barrels left, rear end.
About $325-$350
Not recommended for full choke
the express is the cheaper model Remington came out with. There are many more models like the tactical ones and the wingmaster. The wingmaster is one of the better quality models.
The 870 Wingmaster is still made in .410
