Yes. Alcohol poisoning can happen anytime someone has to much to drink.
Testimonial from Peggy:
Alcohol poisoning is like any other poison, you can die the first time. You are really asking this question: "If I drink a poison that is known to kill, either by over consumption or long time use can die?" The answer is yes. The only way to avoid this is to moderate your consumption of alcohol and avoid party and binge drinking. See these web sites: (notice I didn't say DON'T DRINK)

Now I will tell you something personal, for everyone that reads this. There was a period in my life when I partied too much. After eight years of daily alcohol abuse, I developed an ailment called pancreatitis. Look it up if you can. It is the most painful ailment you will ever experience besides pancreatic cancer and bone cancer. I survived, but spent months in the hospital over the next two years. Not even morphine could stop the pain. I spent the hours between the momentary relief of the morphine during the attacks hoping I would die. I imagine only burning to death hurts more, but that only hurts for a few minutes.
