Use of an air or gas-operated guns by a minor under the age of 16 is prohibited unless the minor is under the supervision and in the presence of an adult who is acting with the consent of the minor's parent.
I would take that to mean that so long as you are 16 or older you can own and use an air gun in Florida. If you are younger then 16 your parent would need to purchase it for you and supervise your use of the air gun.
They let me.
In New Zealand you have to be 18 to own a gun licence.
Yes, a convicted felon can own and airsoft gun and/or a BB gun. It is a real gun that convicted felons cannot own, in which this would be illegal.
It's not necessary but it doesn't hurt. If you don't want anyone else to accesses it, then a locking gun cabinet will secure your gun. I own over 50 different air guns, Not Air-soft guns but air guns and rifles. Some of them are capable of firing a 45 caliber pellet at over 800 feet per second. Some of them are very expensive. So I own several gun safes to store them. When it comes to guns, safety is always first.

If you want to build your own air gun I suggest you search" You tube" and look for "Home made air guns'
