you cant actually have a true period but you can have early pregnancy bleeding, this bleeding is usually different from a normal period, like you said it will be lighter, and shorter you might e able to tell by its smell that it isn't a period and it will have little to no clotting, early pregnancy bleeding is usually nothing to worry about i would takl to a doctor if you are concerned bleeding whilepregnant isn't normal but isn't uncommon,
