You can always use a shorter shell in a 3" chamber. 23/4" should be fine.
No. Anyone who knows even a little bit about shotguns should be able to tell you the gauge by looking at it. But an older gun may have short chambers and if you intend to shoot it you should have have a gunsmith measure them.
I have an older amadeo coach shotgun by rossi, it is nickel plated. Can you tell me if that is the way it came. Is it a shooter or wall hanger?
older
The age of an Ithaca can easily be determined from the serial number. What is it?
older than 100 years
look on the Side of the recevier there should be a Serial Number on the older Ithaca Model 37 the serial Number was stamped on the receiver by the magazine tune and Barrel . also if you take the barrel off on the bottom of the barrel you'll find the matching serial Number. then look up WWW.SURPLUSRIFLEFORUM.COM in their search engine type in ITHACA 37 DOM match your shotguns Serial number up with their chart .
1924, that's odd, maybe someone swapped in an older barrel....
I know older .22's were made without serial numbers, but I don't believe they didn't number any of their shotguns. Look at the underside of the receiver in front of the trigger guard, it should be there. If not, post the model number (stamped into the barrel) and I'll find out for you.
IF it has one it is usually located on the Barrel by the breech. Some of the older Crosmans don't have any at all.
