There have never been any recalls on the Remington Model 742 that I'm aware of. The Remington 742 is now an obsolete model and was replaced with the Remington Model 7400. The bolt received an upgraded design along with the magazine catch/release. At one time Remington was offering a Model 7400 as a replacement for the Model 742, if you sent them your Model 742 along with $350.00. Is there a problem with the 742 that you have?

Designed for hunting, it features a gas-operated action and was offered in various calibers, including .30-06 and .308 Winchester. The Woodsmaster 742 was produced until 1980, during which time it gained popularity for its reliability and ease of use. The Remington Woodsmaster 742 was produced from 1960 to 1980. To determine its age, you'll need to refer to Remington's serial number dating charts, which indicate that serial number 116291 likely dates to the mid-1970s. This would make the rifle approximately 45 to 50 years old, depending on the specific year it was manufactured.
