This mainly depends on the way the radio is wired into the car.
If the radio is wired to a permanent live it will stay on when the key is removed,
If the radio is wired to an ignition or an accessory circuit the radio will go off when the key is removed.
Some radios have the facility to stay on for 20 minutes after the key is removed,
Fiat Panda is a good example of this.
There can be several causes of this:
A short in the electrical system allowing power to the clock light
A faulty relay that is sticking on
A problem in the radio itself (usually a diode)
A defect in the ignition switch (though other things should be staying on as well if this is the cause)
Did you make sure that the key was turned all the way to "Off" not accessories?
If you have a non genuine stereo installed, it could be that it is connected to power and does not sense that the car is actually turned off.
Hope this helps!
Is the key cycled onto the accessories or turned back past lock? If it is turn it completely off.
because you have the radio wired to a constant hot wire .
Tis normal operation so you can stop and listen to the music after you cut the engine off. Open the door and it quits.
The radio is either wired to a permantly live supply or the radio has an auto off feature after a set period of time (mine stays on for 20 minutes after the car is switched off).
Safety feature, so if you leave it on by accident after leaving car, it won't drain your battery so key has to be on.
if your radio is not stock then the wiring is not correct or depending on the year you may need a specific wiring harness for the car which can be bought and installed by any extreme audio store. that would be the case if your car radio stays on when the car gets turned off. It uses energy
owners manual fuse box interior lamps pull it then figure it out no sense in a dead battery
Answer: I assume you mean the radio clock light stays on after you turn the key to the off position. Based on my research there are there are three things that can cause this.First, there is the possibility of a bad diode in the radio itself which will require the replacing or disconnecting the radio.Second, there is a short somewhere causing the clock to stay on. Finding such short can be a hassle and it might be easier simply to disconnect the clock then trying to find the short. Finally, there is the (rare) possibility that the Body Control Module (BCM) has gone bad but this is unlikely if this is the only issue you are having.
The remote wire is not hooked up. It should be a small blue wire, just take the radio out and hook thise remote wire up and then the radio should turn off when the car is turned off.
If your radio will not shut off when you turn off the car, there may be an issue with the wiring. If your car has the feature where your radio will not turn off until you open the door, that is normal. However, if you have an aftermarket radio, the wiring is most likely the cause.

My 1993 Chevy lumina did the same thing i ended up having to get a new battery it turns out my factory radio was the problem : - )
The radio should go off when you open the door to get out. Maybe a relay?

The battery is still going until you open a door.
The radio staying on in a car, that has not recently stayed on might be due to a program in the computer. The menu buttons on the steering wheel might have been programmed so that the radio stays on until the doors are opened and closed. This is a common feature in most vehicles sold in the United States since 2005.
I have the same year Explorer and my radio had the same problem... The problem was in the radio and it just needed to be replaced with a new one.
If you turn on your 1999 mustang v6 car and the right signal light stays on and doesn't blink and you switch the car off and then the left signal light stays on without blinking, then you need to see a mechanic.

The radio has failed and needs replaced.
