no
Per Cassie Wilkerson:
The person who answered no may have never seen an intact vintage or antique Piano in their entire lives to give this misinformation. If they have well in most cases the piano may have been modified. Some antique or vintage piano's had cast iron and yes Brass sound boards or with a full feature back plates with brass tuning pegs too some were ornate with carved scrolling these are old large and heavy solid either oak ornate carved pianos mostly Uprights and will be over hundred years old to today's 2012 year.
The reason known Owned a vintage by then 80 some year old piano at age 6 in the mid-1970's........over time the these metals shall I say warp, crack and are prone to over-stripping due to abuse of improper tuning - these pianos were meant to sit in a home for years and not get moved around much so yes most had these plates replaced with spruce or other materials..........Another factor is metal prices most had the most valuable accessories ripped off by piano tuners and restorers for the scrap metal values as well having the original elephant ivory taken off again for valuations.
Note the vintage piano owned was a Kimball upright the piece so heavy that it took 6 men to move it so yes these piano's metal soundboards were usually replaced to keep a piano especially if the owner moved often. Know about the feature of scrap metal rip-offs as we stopped a tuner and restore doing so but they already knocked off the Ivory keys and was sued for damages in 1985 that business has since gone out of business - to validate it still have legal documents if anyone questions the validity of this answer!
The piano also featured a center cutaway to see the hammers hit covered in felt most felts were worn with window that had ornate stained glass and yes the decorated the lift bar tone foot pedal with what looked like classic liberty damsels in togas in oval pictures either painted or applique works - the mechanisms to use the three prong foot pedal you really had to place force as couldn't get them to work or strength till age 14. So yes it was a monster of a Piano stood about 5ft tall! It was sold in 1998 in Richmond, VA as we moved and this heavy monster in no way we were going to pay to move nor the new residence suitable to keep this enormous piano even as an upright it needed space investment compared to modern pianos today!
Please also understand the main reason why these metal soundboards are even rare they reach a limit or maximum of life producing quality sound where they fail future tuning. So in essence, if you have one it will most likely be out-of-tune and the ability tune incapable. So, if you do own a complete intact one may have to live with a piano that will not sound well or no longer playable just for display feature in the home as decoration. As the truth the piano was bought out of tuned remained owned out of tune and sold out-of-tuned! but it was lovely to look at!

Actually electric pianos did not replace acoustic pianos. There are literally millions of acoustic pianos in the united states alone, and more being bought every week. I personally see about 1000 pianos a year because I work as a piano tuner/technician. Electric pianos do come in handy for traveling to gigs, but acoustic pianos are very much alive and well.
No, Emerson pianos are not good.

Most pianos are made of the same combinations of metals. This is an incomplete list: The frame is cast iron, the tuning pegs are steel, as are the bridge pins, the pedals are plated brass.
