SteveAccording to the original manga, Goku was the first super saiyan. However If you are counting non-canon (Not original) Then Bardock was the first. But for general use Goku is widely regarded as the first. There was a manga and now an episode about Bardock after planet vegeta is destroyed.
His name is Oozaro Zeron. He appears in the newest Dragonball series which will come out on 13/10/12. The series will be called Dragonball Zeron and the final Dragonball series. It has more than 20 seasons! I hear that the studio did not want to continue Dragonball, but they changed their mind.

I didn't get to the part where vegeta goes ss5 there is no super saiyajin 5 AF is a fan made manga just like its toys it was originally a prank AF standing for April Fools and it took toriyama funimation and toe animation to say they did not make it nor were they ever planning too so no there is no super saiyan 5 and vegeta like goku will never get there

Bardock's power level at this stage was close to 10,000 far below what if requireded to reach the level of Super Saiyan regardless of how angry you are. He was weaker than Vegeta when Vegeta first came to earth (he had a power level of 18,000). Goku had a power level of 3,000,000 before he was able to turn into a Super Saiyan. Even if Bardock could somehow turn Super Saiyan, he would still be weaker than Frieza's first form, because turning into a Super Saiyan increases your power level by 50x, making it 500,000. Frieza's first form is 530,000. Bardock was no where near the Super Saiyan level.
