Christmas in Swaziland is celebrated very much like it is in the US. People attend a midnight mass on December 25th. They then return home and cook and prepare a meal which is eaten by the family. The next morning they celebrate by singing Christmas carols and opening presents.

There is no official Christmas meal in Swaziland. In the western world, the official meal is turkey. However turkey is not native to Africa.

The Christmas dishes in Swziland vary by family and region. The common options are:

  • Baked Peixe Pedra (a fish)
  • Baked salmon
  • Lamb
  • Gammon
  • Gazelle
Sometimes they have the meat as a stew.
