Obi Wan Kenobi, general of the clone army and one of the jedi masters during the clone wars, shot grievous with a CIS blaster pistol several times in the heart. Because these blasts were so high in temperature, the general of the battle droid army quickly burned up out of his eyes and other various parts of his mechanical body. Kenobi left him lying right where he had perished.

Is general grievous Darth Maul?
No. Darth Maul is a Zabrak (humanoid with little horns poking out it's head) while Grevious is a Kaleesh. Then Darth Maul can use the force while Grevious may have lightsabers but he can't use the force. Lastly Maul was killed in "The Phantom Menace" two episodes before Greviouses appearance.
