The fact that Fascist opposition against the invading Allies quickly crumbled and that Italy started suing for peace or at least an armistice. The Grand Council of the Fascist Party had by then already deposed Mussolini as its leader, and the King had fired him as Prime Minister.

The Nazis did not break ties with Mussolini at that point. Surrender of Italy to the Allies would mean that Germany faced immediate invasion from the south. So the Nazis forcibly reinstated Mussolini and used him as a pretext to replace the crumbling Italian defence by a strong German army.

Mussolini was kept in power by the Germans until the very end of WW 2. Only when the German troops finally retreated they left him to his fate. Mussolini was discovered when he tried to flee in a German convoy, was arrested and shot.

What was the relationship between Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini?

Hitler appreciated Mussollini's style of leadership. He ruled his people by making sure they feared him - something you would recognize in Hitler's actions. Mussolini used World War 1 veterans as those who he trusted for guidance (not the word I want) - which were called the "Black Shirts". Hitler's version were the "Brown Shirts" or the Nazis. These are examples of Mussollini's influence upon Hitler's ruling style. Here is a link that reflects some of the communication between the men leading toward and during World War 2. Keep in mind they were allied during the war in an effort to rule the world.

How and why was Mussolini dismissed from office?

Mussolini appeared before the grand fascist council upon Vistor emmanuels request on 24th July 1943 where he was severly criticised for the poor performance of Italian troops in north Africa and his general failings in the war, which by this point was not popular in Italy due to over a milllion men dead by 1943. Mussolini was sacked By King Victor Emannuel and imprisoned. Hitler arranged for Nazi forces to break him out and he would then be given the role of head of a republican fascist governing body in alliance with Germany. Of course on his travel northwards out of Italy, he was stoppped by anti-fascists and whilst dressed in a disguise, was recognised and killed along with his mistress companion. Interestingly his grand daughter Allesandra Mussolini is involved with a fascist party in Italy and plays a prominent role.

What were Benito Mussolini's aggressions?

Mussolini became prime minister of Italy in 1922. In 1936, he invaded Abyssinia, now Ethiopia, in an attempt to grab a colony in Africa. The European "Scramble for Africa" that had led to the acquisition of colonies by Britain, France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Germany had ended in the previous century; and Mussolini's exploits were roundly criticised as colonial expansion was no longer considered acceptable. Around the same time, Mussolini provided succour to the Fascist franco forces in the Spanish Civil War; and he joined in a pact with Hitler to create the Axis alliance. Despite this, neither Hitler nor Mussolini had much time for the other; and each considered the other rather absurd. It is a great shame that their mutual despising did not lead to to an early break in relations; if it had Hitler might have hesitated to invade Poland (even though he knew that he could rely on his non-agression pact with the Russians).

How did Australia break apart from antarctic?

Apparently, it was caused by swells of magma called mantle plumes. Originally, most of the continents were joined and as the mantle plumes began to swell, they caused cracks in the surface, which eventually caused the break away from the Antarctic. It's still happening in Ethiopia and it's predicted that eventually, some of the East coast of Africa will break away.
