Rebecca Lee Crumpler's parents were Absolum Davis and Matilda Webber. Her father was a freedman, and her mother was a former slave who worked as a domestic servant. Crumpler became the first black woman to earn a medical degree in the United States in 1864.
She died on Semptember 9, 1895, at age 64.
