Feldene (piroxicam) is not a controlled medication. It is in the class of NSAIDS or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are used to treat inflmmation and joint pain. (ibuprofen and Aleve are also NSAIDS). There are no risks for developing tolerance to this medication nor is there a withdrawl when the medicine is abruptly stopped. These medications must be considered habit-forming. These are the main criteria that a med must fit into in order to be placed as a Scheduled 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 medication. All non-addictive medications are not placed in a Scheduled category. While Feldene is used for pain, it is chemically different than other pain pills like oxycodone or morphine (both are scheduled 2 meds). That is why Feldene does not meet the requirements. Hope this helps! S.Z. CPhT, RN
