Steadfast in a relationship means you are committed to that person. When they need your emotional support or whatever, you are there for them. For an example, if you put a post in the ground and just surround it with dirt, when the rain comes it will loosen that post. But if you do it right with cement, then that post is steadfast, it is there to stay for many years.
The way society is today, people don't commit to each other for life anymore----but that is the way it is supoosed to be. Do you want to be in a relationship with someone you cannot count on to be there when you need them most? I hope not. My first wife and I were married for almost 33 years. When we told people that, they looked at us like we were from outer space because that is not the norm anymore.
Let's use a spiritual example of this question:
The Bible says everyone is given a measure of faith. Just like when you are born everyone gets a set amount of muscles in their body. Now you can choose during your lifetime to exercise those muscles or let them get weak from lack of use. The same is true of our faith. God wants us to trust Him and let Him help us, but not everyone wants to do that. So if you don't exercise the faith you have, you won't have it when you really need it, just like your muscles. Faith like muscles are meant to be used, not left to atrophy and weaken.
So a steadfast faith would be one that is strong. Everyone's faith needs strengthening in different areas. Only God knows how much faith we have. When bad things in your life happen, that is when your faith is tested----the hot water of life. We have the choice to use our faith and come closer to God or turn away and try to do it on our own which is very hard to do without His wisdom. He would rather have us turn toward Him so He can help and comfort us, but not everyone wants that, sadly.
