Either continue on the topic of conversation or change the topic to something interesting. Girls will probably do this more often then boys so here is a list of things that they probably will like.

1. Complement them (hair clothes, you know the drill)
2. Fav tv shows
3. friends
4. Annoying teachers
5. Funny times (that you are her have had)
6. Jokes (they have to be extremely funny for best outcome) (you do not want to get in a weird moment when she doesn't get it)

I would just say "Yep" back because if they're being boring in a conversation its best to test if they really wanna talk by just being boring back.
