Everyone has there own times but they normally range around 7-8 hours of sleep. It is smart not to watch TV, play Video Games or drink anything with alcohol or caffeine within 1 hour of you going to sleep.
The accepted 'normal' amount is eight hours. However - everyone is different. I, personally, only need around six hours sleep. I'm never asleep before 1am and always awake again by 7am.
As a person gets older they require less hours of sleep and can actually function better on a lower number of hours. Typically when you get older you have a harder time sleeping and only get about 4-6 hours of sleep a night.
Everybody is different once it comes to sleep. Most researchers agreed upon 8 hours asleep at night time is healthy as long as the quality of sleep is good. Addenda Absolutely correct. Some people need more sleep than others. Anywhere between 2 and 10 hours. As an adult 6 to 8 is normal but not a requirement.
The average is 8 hours, some people require 10 hours and there is approximately 35% that only need six hours (I'm one of those people.) It depends if you have REM sleep (deep sleep) and if you do then even six hours is enough for many people. If you are a lighter sleeper then 8 - 10 hours is a must. Children from 1-19 need at least 10 hours of sleep each day.
Yes, it is. Your body does need rest.
the ideal amount of sleep depends from person to person. some people cansleep only 4 hours a night without compromising their rest, others may need over 9 hours of sleep to function properly during the day. It is however a myth that people need at least 8 hours of sleep.
teens need about 9 to 10 hrs per night but adults need at least 8.

According to Dr. Richard Ferber in his book "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems," an 18-year-old requires 9 hours of sleep, though the typical range is 8.5-9.5 hours. This is from his chart on page 10.
Soldiers in combat settings during WW1, WW2, and just about any war, slept no more then 2 hours a day. they would have on and off shifts night and day and only get little time to sleep. Soldiers away from the battlefield and on the home front kept more "normal" hours. they only get about fourteen hours of sleep mabay they got 24 hours if possible.
Not necessarily - the 'eight hour sleep' is a myth. Every person is an individual - while one person might need 8 hours sleep each night, another might only sleep for 7.5 hours. I, myself only need just over 6 hours each night - and have had this sleeping pattern ever since I was a teenager (over 30 years ago !)
