Ge stands for gold electroplate, meaning gold plated. This means it is not solid gold filled, only covered in gold. This means the ring is not a fake.

A ring or other piece of jewelry that’s stamped GE, as in 14k or 18k GE, etc., is not all gold. It’s only plated with a thin layer of gold. The metal under the plating is usually just pot metal, which can’t be heated with a torch for sizing., and it’s usually impossible to even get a laser welder to fix it. I’ve been a jeweler for 35 years, and have encountered a lot of gold plated jewelry. I don’t like to call it junk jewelry, but that’s what a lot of jewelers and people who buy gold call it. In my opinion if someone likes a piece of jewelry, it doesn’t matter what it’s made of if it makes them happy. I have found that if a jeweler is creative he/she can repair (almost)anything...given enough time.
