My suggestion, from personal experience would be:First, you or the person addicted to heroin HAS TO WANT to get off heroin. If he or she doesn't want to, then absolutely nothing will work. OK, so once they want to, they will need to go through detox. Best bet is to go to a treatment center where they can detox less painfully with medications to keep you calm and in a safe environment, where you CANT get high.Most insurances will cover at least the detox portion of rehab. If you have no insurance, that's another thing. You may have to look into places that take people with no insurance or detox at home, which would be harder. Once you have gone through the initial detox, I would say get a good psychiatrist who is certified to dispense SUBOXONE, which is a medication that contains buprenorphine , and will cut down on your cravings. It also will keep your withdrawl symptoms at bay. If you do try to get high, you might as well forget it, because it has some kind of blocker in it.
