It's not a definite yes, however, children have minds that are not yet fully developed, therefore their minds pick up facts and skills much easier than the average adult would. Also, adult minds allready "know" what it's good at doing, so it tries to remember relating facts and forget others. The mind is a "use it or lose it" tool. This is why an adult may understand global studies but be completely thrown off by say, trigonometry. Children do not yet know what their best at, so they soak up info much easier, because their brains are not yet "picky", so to speak.
