But some Pharmaceutical company like Vitality has developed a new class of cannabinoid prodrugs, known as cannabosides, which upon ingestion can enable the selective delivery of THC and cannabidiol to the gastrointestinal tract.

A pro-drug is an agent which has to be metabolized by the liver to become biologically active. Its the product (substrate) of the pro-drug which has the actual pharmacological effect.
The difference between a pro-drug and a drug is that the pro-drug must be broken down to be active.
